Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, met today in Brussels with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Holy See Secretary for Relations with States.
In this second EU-Holy See Ministerial Structured Dialogue on foreign policy and global issues, Federica Mogherini and the Holy See’s Foreign Minister addressed issues of mutual interest such as the Western Balkans; Eastern Europe; the conflict in Syria and the Middle East peace process; Latin America/Caribbean and in particular the situation in Venezuela; China; and Africa.
On global challenges, Mogherini underlined the EU’s continued full commitment to contribute to the development of the UN Global Compact for Migration and Refugees and to provide humanitarian assistance to people in need. She also highlighted the EU’s determination to implement the Paris Climate Agreement.
The European Union will continue, with a view to promote peace, stability and security, to deepen and expand the dialogue with the Holy See both bilaterally and in multilateral fora such as the UN.
