The Protocol Division’s role is to facilitate high-level diplomatic contacts between the EEAS and third States, as well as other institutions and international organisations. It covers responsibilities related to diplomatic missions and international organisations accredited to the European Union and in this respect, including diplomatic accreditation.

The Protocol Division provides support to official visits hosted by the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy or by other Senior Managers of the European External Action Service on his behalf.

The Protocol Division works with other departments to improve the European External Action Service’s positive image in the eyes of third States as well as other institutions, international organisations and the general public and by doing so, the Protocol Division contributes to the EEAS’ overall objectives.
