Mother Earth’s heart beats for urgent action
Climate change, man-made changes to nature as well as crimes that disrupt biodiversity, such as deforestation, land-use change, intensified agriculture and livestock production or the growing illegal wildlife trade, can accelerate the speed of destruction of the planet.
The EU is one of the world leaders in action on climate change, with a goal to reduce emissions by 55% from 1990 levels by 2030 and to become climate-neutral by 2050, backed by the European Green Deal to make its climate ambitions a reality.
Earth Day on 22 April is an opportunity to raise awareness, and promote action and support for environmental protection.
The #BeTheWave awareness raising campaign calls on people around the world to amplify the Earth’s heartbeat, each with their own sound:
- by tapping hands on a table, playing the spoons, hitting the drums, beatbox or singing a tune or any other sound, and recording a video with their smartphones when making this sound
- sharing it on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook with the hashtag #BeTheWave
- and tagging:
- @eudiplomacy on Instagram
- @eu_eeas on Twitter
- European External Action Service – EEAS on Facebook
These sounds are combined into one sound mix, a joint beat: The Earth’s Heartbeat. We invite you to listen to the sound of the growing heartbeat and find more information here: earthcalling.eu.You are still in time to participate with your own beat. We welcome you to join us for this good cause!
Let’s make the Earth’s heartbeat heard, create awareness and take action for the protection of our planet!
