Global Gateway in Action: EU-Zambia Economic Forum, 18-19 May 2022
President Hichilema opened the Economic Forum reaffirming his strong commitment to democratic and pro-business reforms, private sector engagement and anti-corruption. EU Commissioner for Agriculture Wojciechowski called on Zambia to increase its agricultural output and help avert a global food security crisis in the wake of Russia’s aggression war in Ukraine. AU Commissioner for Economic Development, Trade, Industry and Mining Muchanga underlined the importance of the AU-EU partnership and urged Zambian businesses to mobilise resources and increase its share of global trade.
The participants actively engaged in numerous B2B and B2G meetings as well as built connections at nearly 70 information stands and exhibitions. In the margins of the event, the signing of cooperation agreements on skills development and digitalisation further contributed to the Global Gateway investment agenda in Zambia and attracted a lot of media attention.
