EU and Ghana hold successful Partnership Dialogue
In his opening remarks, Dr Bawumia emphasised the long-standing fruitful cooperation between Ghana and the EU and described the dialogue as “an important milestone in our collective efforts to drive forward economic cooperation and coordinate actions to address our challenges”. He also thanked the EU for the allocation of €10 million to support food security in Ghana.
Ambassador Razaaly echoed this assessment and highlighted strong partnership at international level, notably Ghana’s commitment to upholding democratic values and unwavering support to a rules-based multilateral order in the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. He concluded on the ambition of the EU-Ghana partnership: “First, to accompany Ghana in overcoming the current crisis. Second, to support Ghana to become the regional hub it longs to be. And finally, for the country’s leaders to continue to be an engaged and indispensable voice on the international scene.”
A constructive dialogue between EU, Member States and over 30 Ghanaian civil society organisations took place the week prior. Civil society representatives with wide ranging expertise, from human rights and democracy to sustainability and economic empowerment, took part in a transparent and lively exchange. Discussions focused on similar topics as the Partnership Dialogue, with special focus on civil society’s role and needs in each of these areas.
