Celebrating Europe Day Across the United States
For Europe Day 2025, we celebrated just how far and deep the European connections reach across the United States.
Europe Day marks the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration on May 9, 1950, which set out the foundation of the European Union as we know it. After 75 years, several events to mark the special occasion took place not only on the day itself, but throughout the week.
Across the nation, from state to state, countless communities highlighted the EU’s commitment to peace, partnership, cooperation, and shared culture. It was an opportunity to celebrate those communities and honor the longstanding ties between the European Union and the United States.
Europe Day in the Nation’s Capital
To celebrate Europe Day, the EU Delegation in Washington, D.C., hosted its annual Open House on Saturday, May 10.
For the only time all year, the EU Delegation and over 20 of its Member State embassies opened to the public from 10 AM - 4 PM at 2175 K Street NW — right in the heart of the nation’s capital. Visitors enjoyed a vibrant and diverse array of authentic music, dance, food, film and art that define the European Union. View photos from the day by clicking here.
On the evening of Wednesday, May 7, the Delegation hosted at the EU Residence the annual Transatlantic Bridge Awards ceremony. Awards were given to four distinguished Americans who have helped to support and strengthen the transatlantic relationship: Senator Jeanne Shaneen (D-VT), Congressman Nathaniel Moran (R-TX), journalist Margaret Brennan of CBS News, and Fred Hutchison, CEO of LNG Allies.
