EU Military Committee Away Days in Copenhagen under the Danish Presidency

On 9 October 2025, the European Union Military Committee (EUMC) convened its Away Day in Copenhagen, hosted under the Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The event brought together the Military Representatives (MILREPs) of the twenty-seven EU Member States for a series of informal and frank disscussions focused on the European Union’s Preparedness Union Strategy and defence priorities, such as the Defence Industry.
Strategic Dialogue under the Danish Presidency
The first dialogue was an intense dialogue about the Prepared Union Strategy, chaired by General Seán Clancy. The meeting provides a platform for open exchanges between the national military representatives. This time focussing on what lessons can be learned from member states’ crises to further the implementation of the Preparedness Union Strategy.
Held in Copenhagen, the discussions built upon the Danish Presidency’s overarching focus on a stronger, more secure, and more resilient Europe.
Engagement with the Danish Defence Industry
As part of the programme, participants visited “Industriens Hus”, home to Danish Industry, where they received a briefing by representatives of the Danish defence sector. The engagement allowed for a frank dialogue between military representatives and industry representatives. This underlined the need for closer collaboration between the military and industry to deliver on Europe’s defence readiness objectives.
This dialogue reinforced the shared view that a resilient European defence requires not only capable armed forces, but also an innovative and interconnected defence industry able to meet the evolving operational needs of the EU and its Member States.
Strength through Unity – Credibility through Capability
The EUMC Away Day in Copenhagen reaffirmed the Committee’s role as the forum for collective military advice within the EU, ensuring coherence between political direction and military implementation.
Through its continued engagement, the EUMC contributes to a Europe that is strong, ready, and resilient — delivering on its strategic commitments through unity and credibility.
