EUTM Somalia Marks 16 Years of Partnership
Since its launch on April 7, 2010, and now operating under its ninth mandate, EUTM S delivered several courses in close cooperation with EU and international partners. Over the past sixteen years EUTM Somalia has provided strategic advice, mentoring, and capacity building tailored to the Federal Government of Somalia’s priorities. The mission’s sustained efforts have focused on professionalizing Somali security institutions, strengthening leadership, and improving operational capacity. The recent surge in courses (68% increase in training courses organized in 2025 and more than 90% additional trainees compared to the 8th Mandate), reflects both an expanded programmatic reach and deeper collaboration with other EU and international actors who share the goal of a more secure, stable Somalia. EUTM Somalia’s activities are aligned with Somali-defined needs and adapt as conditions allow. The mission continues to support sustainable, locally led security solutions by training trainers, advising on command and control, and promoting accountability and respect for the rule of law. Cooperation with Somali authorities and international partners remains central to scaling up activity and preparing for future expansions when the security and political environment permits.
As EUTM Somalia marks its 16th anniversary, it reaffirms its dedication to building a secure and stable future for Somalia. Through strategic advice, mentoring, and capacity building, the mission has demonstrated that progress is achieved through collective effort and shared vision. EUTM Somalia’s work—guided by the principle of ONE TEAM, ONE LOOP, ONE MISSION—exemplifies the power of unity in action. By working hand in hand with Somali authorities and international partners, the mission continues to lay the foundation for sustainable, locally led security solutions, ensuring that every step forward is taken together.
