Youth & EU’s foreign policy

The European Youth Week has officially started, drawing young leaders from across Europe and around the world. The kick-off event at the European Parliament gathered a crowd that came together to celebrate and learn more about the young people brave enough to make a difference.

The European External Action Service invited a group of young multipliers from across the globe to attend the event so they could share their perspectives on youth-led advocacy and their role in shaping policymaking on an international stage.

On Thursday April 23rd, these youth representatives engaged in workshops giving them an opportunity to reflect on the three strategic pillars of the EEAS: Defending the EU, Securing the neighbourhood, Building reliable partnerships.   The conclusions were then presented in a formal session at the European Parliament to senior policymakers, in front of an audience of 150 peers. The session explored how young people worldwide are using social media to drive change – championing human rights, climate action, peace, and security, even in the face of immense challenges. Panellists and audience reflected on social media’s power to mobilise communities, shape narratives, and amplify marginalised voices—ultimately influencing policy.  Together, they reimagine the future of EU diplomacy—a space where people of all generations and backgrounds, both online and offline, unite to create real and lasting change.

Through initiatives like the Youth Policy Dialogues, young people can exchange directly with EU leaders and influence policymaking.
