More than 9.000 Ukrainian military personnel trained in Spain
The training modules are carried out all over Spain and are conducted by various units of the Spanish Armed Forces and the Guardia Civil. Since early 2026, instruction evolve to a higher level: Basic Recruit Training has moved to the background leaving space to a more technical and specialized instruction.
In this context, during the first four months of 2026, modules on advanced military topography, military police, and armored recovery vehicle were conducted for the first time, among others. Additionally, the second maintenance and crew training course for Leopard 2A4 main battle tank has been imparted which first edition was completed at the start of the mission.
Along this line, several modules have been repeated more than ten times -and are still being planned- such as those focused on military decision-making process, air defense systems (including the HAWK missile), the M113 vehicle, and geographic data management and georeferencing systems.
As the Deputy Spanish Commander (DCOM), Colonel Víctor Amalio Samaniego Palacios, stated: “EUMAM UA continues demanding a high level of commitment and flexibility from our personnel. With the main purpose of providing the most rigorous training possible and tailored to the target audience, permanent coordination with the Ukrainian Army has been established”.

EUMAM UA, support for Ukraine
All this training is managed through the Toledo Training Coordination Centre (TTCC) Headquarters based in Burgos. The EU Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine) is aimed at strengthening the capacity of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to defend Ukraine’s territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders and to deter and respond to possible future military offensives by Russia and other potential aggressors. EUMAM works closely together with all other like-minded international partners to provide training support to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. EUMAM is open to the participation of third states. All mission activities are located on EU soil. So far, 24 EU Member States have offered training modules and personnel. The training is supported by the provision of equipment for lethal and non-lethal purposes to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This equipment is provided by Member States and funded by the European Peace Facility.
