First 'Small Arms' Training Module for Ukrainian Military Concludes

Within the framework of the EUMAM UA mission, this is the first time a specialized program on the use and maintenance of individual and crew-served weapons has been conducted in Spain.

The "General Almirante" Base, located in the municipality of Marines (Valencia), has served as the setting for the first "Small Arms" training module for Ukrainian military personnel. This instruction lasted three weeks and was delivered by the "Lusitania" Cavalry Regiment No. 8, belonging to the "Almogávares" VI Paratrooper Brigade.

This collaboration is part of the European Union Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM UA) and featured the participation of 21 Ukrainian service members. The primary objective was to optimize their skills in the use and maintenance of individual and crew-served weaponry.

Instruction Phases and Weapon Systems

The training program was designed in a staggered manner to ensure progressive learning. First, the trainees carried out a theoretical and practical study of the various weapon systems. This phase covered everything from individual weaponry to crew-served models.

Subsequently, the training focused on maintenance tasks. The Ukrainian personnel acquired both first-echelon knowledge, focused at the user level, and second-echelon knowledge, aimed at personnel specializing in the mechanics of these systems. The module concluded with live-fire exercises, where the acquired skills were tested both in dismounted mode and integrated into various combat platforms.

Safety and Combat Effectiveness

In addition to technical proficiency, the training prioritized the safe and responsible handling of weaponry during any operational situation. Furthermore, it reinforced the importance of seamless coordination among combatants operating crew-served weapon systems.

Thanks to this practical and safe training, the Ukrainian personnel increase their technical preparation and operational autonomy, adapting directly to the real and current needs of their army within the conflict.

EUMAM UA, support for Ukraine

Spain remains committed to the European Union Military Assistance Mission to Ukraine (EUMAM UA). In Spain, training activities are led by the Toledo Training Coordination Centre (TTCC), under the direction of the Operations Command. Coordination takes place with different international structures, within the European Union and within the framework of multinational agreements.

Since the beginning of this European mission, Spain has expanded the range of courses, which are now taught at facilities and units belonging to the Ministry of Defence, the Army, the Navy and the Civil Guard in various locations throughout Spain.
