EU Delegation joins Strasbourg's Marche des Visibilités as Team Europe
On Saturday 20 June, the EU Delegation joined Ambassadors and diplomats from the Permanent Representations of EU Member States to the Council of Europe at Strasbourg's Marche des Visibilités, marching together as Team Europe.
The march was organised by the association FestiGays under the theme "Freedom, Equality, Visibility" and brought together around 6,000 people in Strasbourg city centre.
Walking alongside diplomats from EU Member States, the Delegation took part in a powerful demonstration of unity, celebrating diversity and standing up for the rights of LGBTIQ+ persons. This collective presence was a visible expression of the EU's steadfast commitment to equality, inclusion, and human dignity.
The EU remains a strong global defender of the full and equal enjoyment of human rights by LGBTIQ+ persons, free from discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. Equality and non-discrimination are core EU values, enshrined in the founding Treaties and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
A few days before, on 17 May, the EU Ambassador to the Council of Europe affirmed in a statement on behalf of the EU and its Member States that the "Commission’s new LGBTIQ+ Equality strategy is set to strengthen protection from violence, countering hate and discrimination, including online, expanding space for people to live freely and equally, and mobilising society as a whole to deliver real equality."
