38th European Film Festival Opens in Amman and Beyond with 22 Films

The opening reception featured a special musical performance by the renowned soloists Dima Bawab – Soprano, Julia Deit-Ferrand – Mezzo soprano, Jean Miannay – Tenor, Jean-Christophe Laniece – Baritone, Mary Olivon – Pianist, offering a tribute to some of the most memorable soundtracks in cinema and highlighting the powerful connection between music and film.
The programme of this new edition of the European Film Festival includes 22 films from Europe and Jordan, including acclaimed and award-winning productions spanning a wide range of genres such as drama, documentary, comedy, family cinema, science fiction, and sport.
Screenings will take place until 1 October 2026 at the Royal Film Commission in Amman, as well as in governorates across Jordan, extending the festival experience to audiences beyond the capital. All screenings are open to the public free of charge.
The festival will also welcome filmmakers from Europe, including the directors of the films representing Cyprus and Austria, who will attend their respective screenings and participate in Q&A sessions with audiences afterwards.
The closing night will take place on 1 October at 8:00 p.m. with the Jordanian film Sink, directed by Zain Duraie, followed by a Q&A session with the director.
H.E. Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas, Ambassador of the European Union, said:

The European Film Festival is an invitation to recognize the deep bond between Jordanians and Europeans, through shared emotions and aspirations. We hope that as many Jordanians as possible will join us on this new journey, and that they will enjoy this token of friendship from Europe’.

The RFC’s participation in the festival is in line with its strategic objectives of promoting film culture and strengthening the presence of cinema within society. Film festivals are important not only as platforms for screening films, but also as bridges for cultural exchange and dialogue.
Organised by the Delegation of the European Union to Jordan, in partnership with the embassies of European Union Member States, the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) Jordan cluster, and the Royal Film Commission, the European Film Festival is a cultural landmark that celebrates creativity, collaboration and the shared language of cinema.
