The Chaillot Prize is presented annually by the Delegation of the European Union in Riyadh (responsible for relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kingdom of Bahrain, State of Kuwait, Sultanate of Oman and State of Qatar), in co-operation with the Delegation of the European Union to the United Arab Emirates and the Embassies of the European Union Member States to the GCC countries, to individuals, civil society organisations and public or private institutions for constructive actions, campaigns and projects which support human rights awareness, promotion and protection in the GCC region. The Prize is named after the Palais de Chaillot in Paris, in which, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on 10 December, 1948.

The European Union Delegation would like to open the call this year for nominations in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Oman for the annual Human Rights Chaillot Prize 2018, which will be awarded in the country of the winner, in December. The deadline for submission of nominations is Thursday November 8, 2018.  Since the 2017 Chaillot Prize was awarded to Glowork in Saudi Arabia in recognition of its important and constructive ground breaking work to increase female employment, this year the award will go to one or more civil society organisations, public or private institutions, or individuals from one of the other GCC countries.

Interested candidates are invited to refer to the Award Rules and Procedures and the Application Form published on
