Federica Mogherini meets with the Prime Minister of Libya, Fayez al-Sarraj and UN Secretary General Special Representative for Libya Ghassan Salamé

Text

High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini met with the Prime Minister of Libya Fayez Mustafa al-Serraj and the Special Representative for Libya of the UN Secretary-General Ghassan Salamé in separate meetings today, in the margins of the Munich Security Conference. They discussed how to advance the political process in Libya, in particular through the scheduled UN-led National Conference and, following that, the holding of elections once the proper constitutional and legal framework has been approved.

High Representative Mogherini recalled recent events in southern Libya, underlining the importance for all Libyans to avoid further armed confrontation and to guarantee the protection of civilians. She stressed the need to preserve the oil infrastructure throughout the country which belongs to all Libyans and which should remain under the control of the legitimate National Oil Corporation.

The High Representative also discussed with her interlocutors how to accelerate economic reforms and how to continue to improve conditions in detention centres for migrants, with the assistance of the EU and UN agencies.
