Travel & Study
VISA
Since 2009, citizens of North Macedonia who hold biometric passports can travel to the EU’s Schengen area without a visa for up to 90 days per six-month period.
For people who intend to work during a short stay or who want to stay for more than 90 days, both visas and work permits are required.
Erasmus+
Erasmus+ is the European Union’s programme for education, training, youth and sport. It offers students, teachers, apprentices and enterprises opportunities to study, work and do internships and exchanges across Europe.
In Erasmus+, North Macedonia is on an equal footing with the EU Member States.
The new Erasmus programme, covering the period 2021-2027, has a budget of €26.2 billion, compared with €14.7 billion for 2014-2020. This will be complemented by about €2.2 billion from the EU’s external instruments.
With this increased budget, Erasmus+ will be more inclusive, more digital, and greener. It will also include DiscoverEU which offers 18 year-olds the possibility to get a European rail pass to travel, learn from other cultures and meet fellow Europeans.
