About the Ambassador

"What does an EU Ambassador actually do?" It’s a question I’ve heard often since arriving in Oslo. 

It’s a fair question. After all, the EU and Norway are already close partners. We share core values, such as the desire to live in democratic, sustainable and safe societies. Diversity, in all its forms, is part of our DNA. We agree that international conflicts are best resolved through multilateralism and cooperation, and we both want to contribute positively to the world.

We are also connected through history and culture. Norwegian artists are celebrated across Europe, while artists from EU Member States have left an indelible mark on Norwegian culture. Through Erasmus+, Norwegian and EU students forge lifelong friendships. Horizon Europe sees our scientists collaborating on life-changing innovations. And sports fans across the EU can easily name Norwegian athletes excelling in our stadiums. The examples abound.

As like-minded partners, we must team up in this unpredictable global landscape, to uphold our values, counter disinformation, and resist efforts to destabilize our societies and those of our neighbors. Our joint effort in supporting Ukraine is a prime example.

I also see potential to deepen our collaboration, from strengthening the single market to advancing trade, defense and the green and digital transitions. So, let’s roll up our sleeves and make it happen.

Diplomacy is, above all, about people. I’m eager therefore to get to know you better: your culture, your companies, your universities, your organizations, your breathtaking landscapes, your cities and countryside, your active lifestyles, and of course, the Norwegian language.

At the same time, I aim to contribute to your understanding of the European Union. Decision-making at all levels, including the European one, can be complex, and so can the resulting legislation—much of which directly impacts our daily lives. That’s why my team and I are here: to discuss, explain, and engage. Trust, the foundation of any strong relationship, begins with understanding.
