New EU Ambassador to PNG
On October 16, 2025 , the new European Union Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, H.E Erika Hasznos, presented her credentials to Sir Bob Dadae, Governor-General of Papua New Guinea. This solemn ceremony celebrated the strong and enduring relationship between the EU and PNG since 1977.
“As the European Union envoy, I have been entrusted with the mission to foster a stronger partnership with Papua New Guinea. Our partnership is built on the solid foundation of our long years of close cooperation. The European Union and Papua New Guinea have many things in common, despite the geographical distance”.
Looking ahead, the European Union is eager to invest in critical infrastructure projects to support climate resilience through our Global Gateway programme.
EU has big plans
The EU Ambassador H.E. Erika Hasznos discussed with the National Business reporter NATHAN WOTI her insights on the relationship between the EU and PNG over the past 48 years and plans going forward.
Q:What is your impression of Papua New Guinea so far?
HASZNOS: It is my third posting outside the European Union – after Bangladesh and Moldova. I arrived in PNG in September and was privileged to witness the vibrant Independence Jubilee celebrations. It was wonderful to meet the country for the first time in the moment that brought together citizens and their friends, conscious of the challenges, but looking ahead to build this nation, based on the diverse and ancient cultures, together. I feel very lucky when I see the fantastic landscape, natural scenery, sea and mountains that your country is blessed with. Currently I am meeting many political, economic, civil society, business, media and environment leaders who are committed to making the future better. This gives a lot of opportunities for cooperation and engagement.
