Who we are
The European Union is represented in Sierra Leone by the European Union Delegation in Freetown, which works with the Embassies and Diplomatic Representations of the EU Member States through a #TeamEurope approach.
What we do
The Delegation of the European Union in Freetown is one of 139 European Union Delegations around the world, serving the European Union interests as a whole. The partnership between the European Union and Sierra Leone started in 1976 when the EU opened its Delegation in Freetown and has since become more diverse and stronger.
The Delegation's mandate includes the following:
- To actively promote the values and policies of the European Union, in an open and equal partnership with the Government and people of Sierra Leone;
- To deepen the political dialogue on all issues of mutual interest and to strengthen the partnership;
- To implement the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy;
- To programme the European Union's development cooperation and manage projects directly;
