In many places around the world, human rights and democracy are under threat. While we combat the global pandemic, multiple challenges are mounting in particular for the most vulnerable communities. As we celebrate Human Rights Day, the EU re-commits to stand and speak out for the oppressed and those under threat, wherever they may live.
The EU Ambassador to the State of Kuwait and the State of Qatar, H.E. Cristian Tudor presented the 2020 Chaillot Prize for the Promotion of Human Rights in the GCC region to its recipient, “Gray Area”, a Kuwaiti civil society initiative that aims to raise awareness of the social stigmas and legal inequalities experienced by children of Kuwaiti mothers and non-Kuwaiti fathers.
Following the health measures adopted by the Kuwaiti authorities, the EU Delegation moved the Europe Day celebrations to virtual outlets and organized many events to mark the occasion over a month.
