Ambassador's Corner
Ambassador Gabrič began her tenure at the helm of the Delegation of the European Union to Canada on 1 February 2021, after serving as Ambassador of Slovenia to Canada since 2018.
Ambassador Gabrič holds a Ph.D. in International Relations and has extensive experience in both bilateral and multilateral international relations.
Since 2020, Ambassador Gabrič has had the honour of serving as Chairperson of the Women Heads of Diplomatic Missions in Ottawa.
Message from the Ambassador
Dear reader,
Welcome! This newly redesigned website opens a window on our day-to-day work and public diplomacy activities in Canada. Here you will also find the latest on EU-Canada relations, news from Brussels, as well as a wealth of information about studying, research and travel opportunities in Europe.
I began my tenure at the helm of the Delegation of the European Union to Canada on 1 February 2021, already familiar with the Canadian way of life thanks to my previous posting as Ambassador of Slovenia to Canada since 2018.
The beginning of my mandate also coincided with the 45th anniversary of the EU Delegation to Canada in February 2021.
Our bilateral relationship with Canada, which dates back to 1959, is one of the oldest the European Union has with any industrialised country. In a relatively short time span, Canada and the European Union have built one of the most vibrant partnerships in the world. Indeed, EU-Canada relations are closer than ever before.
The success and extent of the EU-Canada friendship are mirrored in all areas of activity, where our objectives are closely aligned. Canada and the European Union share the same world view and see eye-to-eye on everything from gender equality and the Arctic, to the importance of succeeding in the green transition and the digitalisation of our economies.
Ours is the kind of partnership nations around the world need to be able to advance their prosperity and rebuild their economies post-pandemic. Ours is the kind of partnership nations around the world look to for leadership guidance. I feel confident that we will emerge from the pandemic reinforced in our shared belief in open societies and commitment to multilateralism and the international rules-based order.
I am honoured to connect with Canadians from coast to coast, and I look forward to continuing our exchanges!
