New package of EU sanctions on Russia

From further trade restrictions to energy, transport and media measures and more, a new package of EU sanctions have been announced in response to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.

Today the European Commission welcomed the Council's adoption of an 11th package of sanctions against Russia. This package will ensure that EU sanctions against Russia are even better enforced and implemented, based on the lessons learned from implementation over the past year.

  • New EU Sanctions on Russia
  • Trade Restrictions, New anti-circumvention tool, Extension of the transit prohibition for certain sensitive goods exported from the EU to third countries, via Russia.
  • Addition of 87 new entities to the list of those directly supporting Russia’s military and industrial complex., Entities from China, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates, Syria and Armenia have been listed.
  • Entities from China, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates, Syria and Armenia have been listed.
  • Extension of the ban on export of luxury cars to all new and second-hand cars above 1.900cm³ and all electric and hybrid vehicles, A full ban on certain types of machinery components.
  • Prohibition to sell, license, transfer or refer intellectual property rights and trade secrets used in connection with restricted goods to prevent being manufactured outside the EU.
  • Energy measures: End of the possibility to import Russian oil by pipeline for Germany and Poland.
  • Transport measures: A full ban on trucks with Russian trailers and semi-trailers from transporting goods to the EU, Prohibition to access EU ports for vessels which manipulate their navigation tracking system when transporting Russian oil subject to the oil import ban or G7 price cap.
  • Over 100 additional individuals and entities have been sanctioned. The list targets key decision makers, oligarchs, senior military officials and propagandists, responsible for undermining Ukraine's territorial integrity.
  • The broadcasting activities of another five Russian State outlets have been suspended.
