Free Cinema for All: 2026 European Film Festival Expands Across Fiji

9 July 2026, Suva – Film lovers across Fiji will have a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the very best of European cinema as the European Film Festival returns in 2026.

Organised by the Delegation of the European Union to the Pacific, in collaboration with Member States of the European Union, the fifth edition of the festival will run from 16 to 25 July 2026, with screenings at Damodar Cinemas in Suva, Pacific Harbour, Lautoka, and Labasa.

Launching the event, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the European Union to the Pacific, Nereo Penalver-Garcia said:

“Cinema is a truly immersive art. It transports us into new cultures, languages, and landscapes, and offers us a glimpse of how people elsewhere live, laugh, and dream. That is why we are so excited to bring this free, inclusive festival to families – and especially to children – across Fiji. My hope is that each film leaves audiences with something to take home – a smile, a new perspective, a spark of inspiration, or simply the joy of a story beautifully told.”

The festival features a curated selection of films from eight European Union Member States: Belgium, Czechia, Estonia, France, Germany, Latvia, Slovakia, and Spain. From heartwarming live-action comedies to magical animated adventures and touching coming-of-age tales – the programme is perfect for the whole family.

The European Film Festival is one of the European Union’s flagship public diplomacy initiatives, celebrated annually in countries across every continent – and Fiji is a part of this global story. All Fijians are warmly invited to join the celebration, discover new stories, and enjoy the rich cultural diversity of European cinema.
