Who we are

The entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty on December 1, 2009, also meant the launch of the European External Action Service. A change that implied that the Delegation of the European Commission became in 2011 the Delegation of the European Union in Colombia, with diplomatic embassy status as well as an Ambassador who is the official representative of the European Union in Colombia.

The European Union's external actions have traditionally focused on three main fronts: trade policy, development cooperation and the political dimension. These elements offer valuable instruments for implementing a plausible foreign policy in the areas of diplomacy, economics and trade. However, in order to adapt the European Union's external policies and priorities to contemporary challenges, the defense of human rights, the preservation of international peace and security and the prevention of conflicts - including internal conflicts - are fundamental objectives of European Union foreign policy.

The activities of the Delegation in Colombia include:

• Representation of the European Union before the national authorities of Colombia.
• Coordination with the Embassies of the European Union Member States accredited in Colombia.
• Work hand in hand with the Colombian Government, the private sector, civil society, the EU Member States and Europe's financial and development institutions to foster sustainable partnerships and investments with greater impact for the country's development.
• Trade promotion through the trade agreement between Colombia and the European Union.
• Direct humanitarian aid through ECHO offices.
• Information through our communication section, website and social networks.
