About the Ambassador

François Roudié was born in Bordeaux, France. He has worked in the European Union diplomatic service for 18 years, with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean.

Between 2021 and 2025, he served as European Union Ambassador to El Salvador and to the Central American Integration System (SICA). Before that, he was Deputy Head of Division for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean at the European External Action Service (2018–2021), and Deputy Head of the European Union Delegations in Argentina (2014–2018) and Uruguay (2010–2014).

He also served as Climate Diplomacy Officer at the European External Action Service (2007–2010) and Political Assistant at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Communication (2004–2007). He worked as a legislative negotiator at the General Secretariat of the European Commission (2001–2004) and began his professional career as a Political Adviser at the European Parliament (1994–2000).

Ambassador Roudié holds two master's degrees, in European Political Affairs and in Comparative European History. He also holds a university diploma in Journalism and studied Political Science. In addition to French, his native language, he speaks English and Spanish. François Roudié has been European Union Ambassador to Colombia since 15 September 2025.
