Commission appoints a new coordinator for combating anti-Muslim hatred

The Commission has appointed Marion Lalisse as its new EU Coordinator on combating anti-Muslim hatred.

Ms Lalisse will work with Member States, European institutions, civil society and academia to strengthen policy responses in the field of anti-Muslim hatred.  In her new role, the Coordinator will be the main point of contact for organisations working in this field in the EU. Commissioner for Equality, Helena Dalli, said: “I am delighted to welcome Ms Lalisse whose work will ensure a robust and holistic response to this issue. Fighting anti-Muslim hatred requires joint institutional and societal efforts in different areas such as education, and social inclusion policies, as well as employment and non-discrimination. We must identify, prevent and tackle this phenomenon”.

Ms Lalisse graduated from the School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London), the College of Europe and University Le Mirail. She served as deputy EU Ambassador to Yemen and Chargé d’Affaires a.i.  and held different positions at the EU Delegations to Ghana, Mauritania, Morocco and within the EU Aid Programme for the Turkish-Cypriot community. A seasoned EU civil servant and a fluent Arabic speaker, she has significant experience in working closely with a wide range of civil society organisations inside the EU and in the Muslim world.
