It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organizations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.
The EU Delegation to Kabul, Afghanistan works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 27 EU Member States. We are a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the Afghan government in areas that are part of the EU’s remit.
We offer
The post of Political, Press and Information Assistant (local Agent Political, Press and Information Assistant (Group II) in the Delegation’s Political, Press and Information Section. Under a fixed-term employment contract of one year, with a possibility of renewal under reserve of budgetary availabilities and operational considerations. The team consists of 5 people and there are occasional atypical working hours.
Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation, and on the changes of these needs. The successful candidate will serve under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of Political, Press and Information Section, providing support, expertise and assistance in [the field of communication, press, and online presence].
Following main tasks and duties are currently required:
- drafting social media content and overseeing an online community of the EU Delegation's social media platforms, including:
- drafting social media posts in English, Dari, Pashto;
- contributing to small-scale social media campaigns;
- use of graphic and audio-visual tools, such as Canva
The base salary will depend on relevant and verified employment experience, typically starting from 2849 EURO. There is a competitive benefits package, subject to certain conditions, including personal leave days and public holidays, health insurances and a retirement savings plan.
The expected start date will be 1/June/2026.
Minimum requirements / eligibility criteria (necessary for the application to be considered)
- Master’s degree in political science, International Relations, Journalism, Law, Economics or History;

Minimum of three (3) years of work experience in political analysis, media and/or communication. The professional experience must be acquired after the date on which the qualification allowing access to the post was obtained.

One year of work experience in Diplomatic Mission, International Organizations or Public Institutions.

Minimum level of knowledge in English language B2, and oral proficiency in both Dari and Pashto languages.

Right to residence and work in [Afghanistan];

Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law.

Medically fit to perform the required duties.

Good computer skills on MS Office tools.
Assets/selection criteria (basis for awarding points to select the best applicant)

Knowledge about European Union.

Experience of working in political analysis and communication including:

Having a very good understanding of the Afghan media landscape and media actors.

Having a very good understanding of political developments in Afghanistan and a wide range of contacts to support the work of the EU Delegation.

Experience in social media communication, including drafting social media content and overseeing an online community of the EU Delegation’s social media platforms, including:

Drafting social media posts in English, Dari and Pashto.

Contributing to small-scale social media campaigns.

Knowledge of graphic and audio-visual tools, such as Canva.

Written proficiency in Dari and Pashto.

The process
After the deadline for applications, the eligible applications will be admitted to the Selection by the Committee set up for this purpose.
Depending on the number of applications received, successive phases of Selection may include shortlisting of candidates based assessment of the information provided in the cover letter, CV practical testing and interviews. 3 best candidates will be invited to the final interview .
Only candidates admitted to each successive selection phase will be contacted individually. The Delegation will not supply additional information or discuss the selection procedure. During the selection process, please do not contact the members of the Selection Committee, but address your questions and comments to the Delegation’s Administration.
The successful candidate will be subject to a medical check, background check and security check.
