What is consular protection for European Union citizens?

Consular protection is assistance provided by a Member State of the European Union to its citizens abroad.

Consular protection may be needed in cases where:

  • A situation requires the issuance of emergency travel documents;
  • A serious accident or illness occurs;
  • Safety and repatriation are needed in urgent situations;
  • You are a victim of a crime;
  • Arrest or detention;
  • Death.

Are you an EU citizen and need consular protection in Angola?

Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, Hungary, and Romania are represented by Embassies and Consulates and can provide consular protection.
