Welcome to the website of the Delegation of the European Union to the People’s Republic of China.

The most important missions of the Delegation of the European Union to China are promoting EU’s interests and values in China, helping build a constructive and fruitful relation between the EU and China, and informing the EU institutions of developments in China.

Caspar Veldkamp

Ambassador-Designate's Resume

Ambassador-Designate of the European Union to the People’s Republic of China Mr Caspar Veldkamp assumed his duties on 1 September 2026. A Dutch career diplomat and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, he brings more than three decades of experience in European affairs, bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, and international financial institutions.

Ambassador-Designate Veldkamp joined the Dutch Foreign Service in 1992 after completing degrees in public administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam and Leiden University, as well as graduate studies in the United States. His early career included work on European Affairs and postings in Warsaw and Washington, where he served as Head of the Political Section. He later held senior positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs covering the United Nations, international financial institutions, and Southeastern and Eastern Europe.

He served as Ambassador of the Netherlands to Israel from 2011 to 2015 and to Greece from 2015 to 2019. From 2019 to 2020, he headed the Embassy of the Netherlands in Brussels. He subsequently served on the Board of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London from 2020 to 2023.

After having been elected to the Dutch Parliament in 2023, Ambassador-Designate Veldkamp was Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands from 2024 to 2025.

He speaks Dutch, English, French, and German. 

He is married to Anne, a lawyer of French nationality, and they have four children.
