International Product Safety Week 2026 was held in Brussels, marking 20 years of global cooperation on consumer safety

The International Product Safety Week (IPSW) was organised in Brussels from 7 to 11 September, marking the 20th anniversary of this flagship event which brings together around 900 (more than 700 in person) regulators, consumer organisations, industry representatives and experts from around the world for meaningful exchanges on critical product safety issues.

This year’s IPSW, themed “Product Safety in Motion”, delves into the growing impact of digitalisation on consumer markets. Key topics included e-commerce, child safety, and how AI and digital tools are shaping market surveillance.

Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection, Michael McGrath said,

For 20 years, the International Product Safety Week has shown that keeping consumers safe is a shared effort. It brings together people who develop policies, enforce the rules, innovate and protect consumers. As e-commerce and new technologies transform our markets, this cooperation matters more than ever. Together, we are shaping the future of product safety.

The SPEAC (Consumer Protection and Non-Food Product Safety) Project, as an EU-funded initiative, participated with a booth displaying information on its objectives and achievements in strengthening compliance and cooperation with Chinese public and private stakeholders since 2019. Participants to IPSW showed strong interest in the project's role in promoting EU rules on product safety in China, as well as in publicly available resources such as the SPEAC Finder and Academy.
