The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy. 

The EU Delegation to the Republic of Colombia, in Bogotá works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 27 EU Member States. We are a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the Colombian government in areas that are part of the EU’s remit.

We offer

The post of Driver (Local Agent Job Profile of Driver, Group V) in the Delegation’s Administration Section. Under a fixed-term employment contract of two years, with the possibility of renewal for an additional two years under reserve of budgetary availabilities and operational considerations. After this period, in accordance with the new labour law, the contract would then become indefinite (if confirmed). The team consists of 13 people and there are occasional atypical working hours.

Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation, and on the changes of these needs. The successful candidate will serve under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of Administration Section, providing support, expertise and assistance in field of driving and service.

Following main tasks and duties are currently required

  • Act as a driver for the Head of Delegation and other members of staff of the Delegation and their guests to official meetings and other places related to work, or in mission within Colombia, during the working day and after hours as necessary.

  • Take responsibility for collecting and delivering mail to the post office or Ministries and other governmental and non-governmental agencies, and other official documents to and from their relevant destination in Bogotá.

  • To keep track and record of vehicle daily activity in the provided vehicle logbooks.

  • Ensure that the vehicle's mandatory legal documents (insurance, etc.) are in order and valid and kept in the vehicle.

  • Ensure that the vehicle is clean and in good driving condition before using it (carry out routine checks such as tire pressure, lights, fluids, etc.).

  • Ensure that the vehicle is fuelled, cleaned and washed when needed.

  • Inform the office manager when the vehicle needs mechanical revision or spare parts and keep track of the maintenance records in the vehicles’ files. 

  • Request quotes for maintenance work in advance for authorization, coordinate maintenance appointments with authorized repair garages and verify the proper performance of the authorized works.

  • Assists in operational protocol matters when accompanying high-level visits.

  • Assists the Administration section with other operational tasks as required.

 

The base salary will depend on relevant and verified employment experience, typically starting from COP $ 3.118.190.  There is a competitive benefits package, subject to certain conditions, including personal leave days and public holidays, health insurances and a retirement savings plan.

The expected start date will be 01/07/2026.

Minimum requirements / eligibility criteria (necessary for the application to be considered)

  • High School diploma;

  • Valid professional driver's license type B1 (reference in Colombia);

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in performing driver duties. The professional experience must be acquired after the date on which the qualification allowing access to the post was obtained; 

  • Working knowledge (B1) in English or French and excellent knowledge of Spanish – C1;

  • Right to residence and work in Colombia;

  • Very good driving record (the person must not have a ticket or traffic infractions);

  • Medical fitness to carry out the tasks assigned.

Assets/selection criteria (basis for awarding points to select the best applicant)

  • Proficiency in other EU languages.

  • Knowledge of the code and traffic regulations of the road in Colombia.

  • Experience driving for diplomatic, international organisations or public administration.

  • Knowledge of automotive mechanics and first aid procedures.

  • Training in defensive driving.

  • Good level of computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Punctuality, discretion and sense of confidentiality, respect of rules, sense of initiative, ability to plan a route/itinerary, ability to deal with stress situations.

The process

After the deadline for applications, the eligible applications will be admitted to the Selection by the Committee set up for this purpose. 

Depending on the number of applications received, successive phases of Selection may include shortlisting of candidates based assessment of the information provided in the cover letter, CV; practical testing and interviews. 3 best candidates will be invited to the final interview and test  

Only candidates admitted to each successive selection phase will be contacted individually. The Delegation will not supply additional information or discuss the selection procedure. During the selection process, please do not contact the members of the Selection Committee, but address your questions and comments to the Delegation’s Administration.

The successful candidate will be subject to a medical check, background check, etc. whatever is relevant.
