1,000 days since Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine: EU and Council of Europe support for Ukraine

Committed to Support Ukraine
On the occasion of the 1000th day, the Ministers’ Deputies observed a minute of silence during the 1512th Committee of Ministers meeting, honouring the victims of the war pursued by Russia in flagrant violation of international law.
At this meeting, the EU Ambassador and Head of Delegation to the Council of Europe, Vesna Kos, delivered a statement on behalf of the EU and its Member States. The statement condemned Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and reaffirmed its continued support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders. The EU commended Ukraine for ratifying the Rome Statute and stressed the need for Russia and its leadership to be held fully accountable for the serious crimes committed. The statement also underscored the EU’s participation in the Register of Damage Caused by the Aggression of the Russia against Ukraine and its support for the Core Group’s efforts to establish a tribunal.
This statement coincided with the Committee of Ministers' adoption of a declaration which reaffirmed its solidarity with the Ukrainian citizens and its ongoing support for Ukraine, along with international efforts aimed at the country’s reconstruction and recovery. It also emphasised the importance of holding Russia accountable for its crimes and achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
The declarations adopted on this day amplify a clear message: The international community will not falter in its support for Ukraine.
As the EU’s statement concluded, its commitment remains clear: “For as long as it takes, and as intensely as needed,” the “EU will stand by Ukraine with steadfast support”.
