I have the honour to speak on behalf of the European Union and its Member States, the Candidate Countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Ukraine, as well as Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino and the United Kingdom aligned with this statement.
-
The European Union unequivocally condemns the illegal organisation of so-called “elections” by the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, namely the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the City of Sevastopol, as well as in parts of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. These so-called “elections” represent yet another blatant violation by Russia of international law, including the UN Charter, and of Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
-
The EU urges Russia to respect Ukraine’s internationally recognised borders and sovereignty. The EU will never recognise the holding of these so-called “elections” in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine or their results.
-
The EU reiterates its unwavering support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
