Europe Month 2025: Over 450 High-School Students Discover and Engage with Europe

In May, we celebrate the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration and the achievements of the European project. On Thursday, 22 May, the European Union Delegation to the Council of Europe organised a dynamic treasure hunt at the Lieu d'Europe, attracting more than 450 high school students from Alsace. Through parcours with stands, each proposing different challenges and games, the students learned more about Europe’s political, social, geographical, and cultural dimensions while engaging with representatives of European and local institutions and associations as well as diplomats of Permanent Representations to the Council of Europe.

Upon arrival, each student received a map of the venue and a “European passport”, which guided them through the treasure hunt. This activity aimed to provide students with an educational and entertaining experience that celebrates the diversity and unity of Europe. In small groups, they visited the stands organised by our partners where they took on various challenges, including quizzes, games, tastings of typical products, karaoke, and more. At the EU Delegation’s stand, for example, students participated in a fun activity where they had to match cards featuring pictures, words, or short sentences to determine whether the element was associated with the EU, the Council of Europe, or both, and stand in the right “lane”. This task not only provided the students with more knowledge about the two institutions and their cooperation but also gave them a hands-on way to connect with European values.

Before the event, high-schools teachers from across the region had been invited to register their classes starting in the spring. We warmly thank them for their participation.

This significant outreach initiative took place at the Lieu d’Europe, a learning and exhibition centre that offers activities to learn more about Europe, its institutions, and its history. The event was organised in partnership with the Council of Europe, the permanent representations of Germany, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, France, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and the Slovak Republic, the Grand Est region, the Lieu d'Europe, the European Institutions Information Center, and the European Movement Alsace/Young Europeans Strasbourg.
