Identities. Aspects of Contemporary Photography in Ukraine.
The EU Delegation in Strasbourg is supporting an exhibition of contemporary Ukrainian photography organised by the association Apollonia, European Art Exchanges. Apollonia is in contact with several representatives of the Ukrainian artistic community and currently running a program of aid and support through artistic projects.
The fascination that the notion of identity exerts on artists, on their work, is the focus of the present exhibition. Based on the work of about thirty Ukrainian photographers, it is testimony to a lively and effervescent contemporary creativity.
This exhibition illustrates some significant aspects of the photographic creation in Ukraine. While highlighting certain local singularities, it is the incarnation of an artistic scene integrated in the European and international context, developing through the prism of identity and universal themes.
The launching ceremony for the exhibition will take place at Apollonia centre, 23 rue Boecklin in Strasbourg, on Wednesday 8 June at 18:00 in the presence of the artists, the organisers as well as the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and the Ambassador of the EU to the Council of Europe, Meglena Kuneva. The vernissage is open to the public and participation is free.
This webpage aims to introduce the public to a limited selection of the featured exhibits. The full exhibition is available at Apollonia centre until 10 July. It can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday, 14:00-18:00, and on Thursday and Saturday until 20:00. Entry to the exhibition is free.
