'Climate Smart Agriculture Research and Innovation Support for Dairy Value Chains in Eritrea'
The overall objective of the project is inclusive, sustainable and climate-relevant transformation of the Eritrean dairy value chain to enhance food and nutrition security, reduce poverty, create job opportunities for young people, and promote resilience to climate change while mitigating greenhouse gas emissions. It has a total duration of 52 months.
The first phase of the project launched on 25 February will concentrate on the preparation of the Project Implementation Plan (PIP) which will focus on dairy value-chain mapping and rapid diagnosis, including stakeholder analysis and identification of broad-brush constraints and opportunities as well as potential interventions, in the targeted geographic areas in Eritrea. The PIP will better define priority activities and effective modalities for implementation.
More than 40 representatives from MoA, the National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI), other institutions under MoA, the concerned Regional administrations, Teagasc and its partners (VITA, Self Help Africa (SHA), Natural Resources Institute Finland (LUKE), University College Dublin (UCC) and University College Cork (UCC)) and researchers, attended the inception workshop.
