On Friday, 17 November 2023, the EU Ambassador in Eritrea, H.E. Gianluca GRIPPA presented his credentials to President Isaias Afwerki at the Denden Guest House in Asmara. The President also received credentials from members from the diplomatic corps, including from EU Member States such as: Austria, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Greece Spain, and Sweden.

In their encounter, Ambassador Grippa and the President held discussions on the bilateral relations, and the enhancement of peace and regional security. Ambassador Grippa restated to the President of Eritrea the importance of peace and stability in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea region to the EU, and of the importance assigned to the role played by Eritrea.
