International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebrated in Asmara

To mark the UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the EU Delegation in Eritrea together with the National Association of Intellectual and Developmental Disability in Eritrea (NAIDDE), Eritrean National Association of the Blind (ERNAB), and Eritrean National Association of the Deaf (ERNAD) organised a screening of the film ‘’Campeones’’  on 2^nd December 2023 at the Cinema Roma in Asmara. The Spanish film depicts a story following a disgraced coach that forms an unlikely bond with a team of intellectually disabled basketball players, highlighting the transformative power of friendship, inclusion and challenging societal norms.

More than 75 parents and 100 children with disabilities, members of government, the international community, and the general public attended the screening. The film was well received by all the viewers. Thanks to the spirit of strengthened efforts to jointly guide their future steps, the three organisations continue to make efforts in fostering inclusivity and championing the rights of individuals with disabilities.
