We are

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organizations. Abroad, the EU is represented through 145 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy. 

 

The EU Delegation to the State of Israel in Tel Aviv works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 27 EU Member States. We are a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the Israeli government in areas that are part of the EU’s remit.

 

We offer

A two-year contract extendable (up to seven years) for the post of Secretary (Local Agent Group 3) in the Political, Press and Information Section. The team consists of seven colleagues.

Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation and on the changes of these needs. The successful candidate will serve under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of the Political, Press and Information Section. 

The secretary will provide daily support to the Head of the Political, Press and Information Section, as well as more general administrative support to the political, press and information section as a whole, including through assisting our EU coordination work with the EU member states' embassies in Tel Aviv.

The vacancy is an opportunity for a motivated and proactive candidate to integrate in a very interesting and stimulating environment. The ideal candidate should be well organised, service-oriented, flexible, and able to work under tight deadlines and pressure. Additionally, the position requires a resourceful team player who demonstrates an extensive ability to exercise confidentiality and professionalism at all times. The candidate must have good drafting and communication skills in English and Hebrew. The candidate will be required to quickly attain competency with the European Union’s procedures and IT tools.

Following main tasks and duties are currently required:

  • Undertake daily media monitoring and prepare press reviews, in close cooperation with the section's press manager;
  • Undertake procurement tasks, according to EEAS procedures and guidelines, related to the delegation's press and information budget, including budget planning, execution, and the preparation of expenditure reports for HQ;
  • Assist in the section's overall public diplomacy efforts, including managing correspondence with the general public, uploading content to the delegation's website, etc.;
  • Assist the section in coordinating the delegation's liaison with EU embassies in Tel Aviv (including organizing meetings, distributing reports, maintaining updated contacts and distribution lists, etc.);
  • Other administrative tasks for the section (arranging meetings, helping organize missions abroad and facilitate missions to Israel from HQ, etc.);
  • Undertake ad hoc short translations English/Hebrew when needed (the delegation engages an outside translator for most such work).

The base salary will depend on relevant and verified employment experience, typically starting from ILS 12,514.  There is a competitive benefits package, subject to certain conditions, including personal leave days and public holidays, health insurances and a retirement savings plan. 

The expected start date will be 15 April 2026

 

Minimum requirements / eligibility criteria (necessary for the application to be considered)

  • Completed second level education;
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experienceperforming the above mentioned tasks;
  • Fluent in Hebrew and English (speaking, reading, writing);

  • An Israeli citizenship or a valid work permit for Israel;

 

Assets / selection criteria (basis for awarding points to select the best applicant)  

  • Knowledge of Arabic language and/or other European Union languages;

  • Strong computer literacy, with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office;

  • Relevant experience related to public policy and/or media or communication;
  • Prior work with WCM (Web Content Management) systems;
  • Capacity to work as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment, ability to work under pressure when required, good oral and written communication skills.

The process

After the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a short-list of candidates who are considered the most suitable for the post based on a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase, which will consist of an interview and a written test.

The candidates who have not been short-listed will not be contacted individually; however, the Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this Vacancy Notice to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
