The Ambassador of the European Union to Japan is looking for a Chef de cuisine to join the household staff of the EU Ambassador’s Residence in Tokyo.

The position

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the kitchen and for preparing meals and official receptions at the Ambassador’s Residence.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Preparing high-quality meals for private and official occasions, including lunches, dinners, receptions and buffet events.

  2. Creating menus combining European, Japanese and Asian cuisine, adapted to each occasion.

  3. Managing food and kitchen supplies and maintaining high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and organisation.

  4. Coordinating with household staff and, when required, other chefs involved in official events.

  5. Assisting with basic administrative tasks related to kitchen operations and supplies.

The position requires flexibility and the ability to work evenings, weekends and irregular hours when required by official engagements.

Profile

Required

  • Professional training as a Chef.

  • Proven experience as a Chef de cuisine.

  • Good command of English.

  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.

  • Strong organisational and teamwork skills.

An advantage

  • Experience working for a diplomatic or international household.

  • Basic Japanese.

  • Knowledge of another European language.

  • Experience with stock, budget or other administrative responsibilities.

Employment

Location: EU Ambassador’s Residence, Minato-ku, Tokyo

Start date: September 2026

Working time: 30–40 hours per week, with two days off per week. Additional hours will be compensated in accordance with the applicable arrangements.
