Diplomats briefed on Japan’s initiative to reduce emissions by 2030

On 25 February, Mr Satoru Iino, Deputy Director of the Environment Ministry’s Office of Senior Coordinator for Local Decarbonization Policy, gave an online presentation to the Science and Technology Counsellors of the European Union and its Member States and other diplomats about Japan’s initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to virtually zero in 100 model areas by 2030. A regional decarbonisation roadmap that includes the above target was adopted in summer last year. Mr Iino informed about the status of this initiative, the next steps/implementation and possible opportunities for international collaboration in areas such as energy efficiency, renewables, smart cities and beyond research.
