EU Delegation to Japan hosts a reception to celebrate Europe Day

On 9 May, the European Union (EU) Delegation organised a reception celebrating Europe Day, the day in 1950 when then French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman called for the joint management of coal and steel, forming the embryo of today’s EU.

After opening remarks by Ambassador Jean-Eric Paquet, speeches were given by Justice Minister Ken Saito, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Keiko Nagaoka and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Kenji Yamada, while House of Representatives Member and Acting Chair of the EU-Japan Parliamentary League of Friendship Masaharu Nakagawa gave a toast. The highlight of the event was a performance of a medley of national anthems of EU 27 Member States and Ukraine by the vocal group The Yokohama Sisters.

A highlight video of this reception can be seen in the window below.
