EU diplomats again fan out to Japanese high schools to engage with youth

EU News 021/2025

Diplomats from the European Union (EU) and its Member States will travel to high schools in the Greater Tokyo Metropolitan Area on 13-14 November to engage with students for 18th edition of the highly successful ‘EU Comes to Your School’ project.

The initiative, first launched in 2007, is one of the most successful public diplomacy activities organised by these diplomatic missions, working together in the spirit of ‘Team Europe’ to reach out to young people and put a human face on the EU and their respective countries.

This year, 18 diplomats, including 12 Ambassadors, will visit 18 schools in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba and Saitama prefectures, with a total of some 5,800 students.

Minister Thomas Gnocchi of the EU Delegation to Japan will kick-off this year’s event with a lecture at Tokyo Metropolitan Hiroo High School on 12 November.

Since its launch, more than 1,100 schools across Japan have been visited by European diplomats under the project, with over 500,000 young people having the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of the EU and its Member States.
