Japan: EU Delegation hosts event marking 4 years of Russian aggression against Ukraine
In his opening remarks, EU Ambassador Jean-Eric Paquet paid tribute to the Ukrainians’ courage and resilience, while criticising Russia’s targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure, including energy systems, amid freezing temperatures. He also thanked Japan for its continued support of Ukraine, and for its significant political, financial and humanitarian assistance.
Ambassador Paquet reiterated that the security of Europe and that of Asia relies on Ukraine achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace, underscoring that sovereignty, territorial integrity and accountability must remain universal principles, essential to the security of all states.
‘If we do not succeed in supporting and protecting Ukraine, the next decades will indeed be governed by a principle of “might makes right” – with profound consequences for security and territorial integrity far beyond Europe, reaching also our partners in this region’, he stressed.
Ukraine’s Ambassador to Japan Yurii Lutovinov and Iwao Horii, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, also addressed the audience.
The screening was paired with an exhibition of photos by Ukrainian artist Vera Blansh titled ‘Hope Amid Pain’.
