On 11 March, diplomats from the European Union (EU) and 24 Member States attended the 2026 Memorial Ceremony for the Great East Japan Earthquake, organised by Fukushima Prefecture, observing a moment of silence and laying flowers.
'Team Europe' was led by Thomas Gnocchi, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the EU Delegation, and expressed their deep condolences for those who lost their lives. They also reflected on the 15 years that have passed for those affected by the triple disaster and conveyed their respect toward the unceasing efforts towards recovery by the government and people of Japan.
