On 6 April, President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara to discuss EU-Turkey relations. President Michel reiterated the EU's interest in developing a cooperative and mutually beneficial relationship; he also shared his deep worries about the latest developments in Turkey regarding the rule of law and respect of fundamental rights. 

The meeting of President Michel and President von der Leyen with the Turkish President followed a discussion on EU-Turkey relations at the video conference of the members of the European Council on 25 March.
