Cross-sector dialogue on the implementation of Engendered Strategy for Jordan’s Economic Modernization

Under the Patronage of H.E. Nasser Al-Shraideh, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of State for Public Sector Modernization, the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Women Empowerment (IMC) and EuroMed Feminist Initiative (EFI) organized a discussion on the implementation of the Engendered Strategy for Jordan Economic Modernization Vision (EMV). This dialogue took place in the frame of the European Union-funded project "Towards Stronger Economic Participation of Women in Jordan."

The primary objective of the cross-sector dialogue was to facilitate comprehensive discussions and exchange of ideas among stakeholders from various sectors on the national and local levels. By bringing together key actors from Government institutions, Governorates’ councils and municipalities, civil society, and academia, the dialogue aimed to foster collaboration and accelerate the implementation of the Engendered Strategy for the EMV to create a roadmap for sustainable progress and meaningful change.

The panelists engaged in a captivating discussion, acknowledging the crucial role of public, private, and civil society sectors in implementing the Engendered Strategy for the EMV. They emphasized the need for coordinated efforts among these entities to enhance women's participation across Jordanian Governorates, sectors, and public spheres. With a focus on fostering a supportive work environment for women, these recommendations aim to contribute to the realization of Jordan's Economic Modernization Vision.
At the opening session, H.E. Maria Hadjitheodosiou, Ambassador of the European Union to Jordan, emphasized, "When mainstreaming the needs of women into national strategies and plans, we believe that four factors should be taken into consideration: raising public awareness about the strategy, recognizing the key role municipalities can play in driving local development, emphasizing the crucial role of cross-sector collaboration and partnerships, and prioritizing the development of data collection mechanisms to enable analysis, monitoring, and evaluation."

In her address, H.E. Wafa Bani Mustafa, Minister of Social Development, underscored "the Engendered Strategy aimed at double women's economic participation to 28% by 2033, creating over 280,000 job opportunities. We strive for a leap in gender equality, ranking, and women's empowerment globally, with initiatives such as improved transportation, workplace nurseries, and formalizing the informal labor sector. Together with governmental councils and municipalities, we enhance women's economic participation across all fields and in all Jordanian Governorates."

H.E. Nasser Al-Shraideh, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of State for Public Sector Modernization, expressed "With the tools of modernization in place, we track our achievements and face challenges, directing efforts towards economic goals. To double past growth rates and create a million jobs by 2033, we must overcome visible economic challenges."

The cross-sector dialogue witnessed participation of around 200 individuals representing diverse ministries and institutions in Jordan, including the Jordanian National Commission for Women, Women’s Empowerment Units from Municipalities, Governorates’ Councils, International and local NGOs, and Community-Based Organizations.
