EDU-SYRIA Scholarship Programme Celebrates 10 Years of Impact
The event, themed “Ten Years of Changing Futures - عشر سنوات من تغيير المستقبل,” drew over 150 attendees, including prominent figures such as H.E. Mr. Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas, the European Union Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and Dr. Abdul Hamid Al-Khaled, Deputy Minister of Higher Education in Syria.
Ceremony highlights included welcoming remarks from Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli, the President of the German Jordanian University (GJU) who affirmed GJU's commitment to enhancing educational access, and a presentation by Prof. Dhiah Al Deen Abou Tair, EDU-SYRIA Programme Manager showcasing the programme's achievements, including over 4,000 scholarships awarded.
H.E. Ambassador Chatzisavas stressed the EU’s ongoing commitment to empowering refugees, while Dr. Al-Khaled emphasized education's role in rebuilding communities.
A musical performance and alumni success stories enriched the celebration, alongside a panel discussion on future partnerships in higher education and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The launch of “EDU-SYRIA: My Story,” a book that collects personal stories written by programme beneficiaries. The first printed copies were presented on stage to mark the occasion. A series of short videos were also showcased during the event, highlighting the programme’s milestones, student achievements, and the impact of EDU-SYRIA over the past ten years. These videos captured personal stories, reflections from partners, and key moments that shaped the programme’s journey.
As the event concluded, attendees engaged in a “My Story” exhibition and networking lunch, celebrating a vibrant community committed to the transformative power of education and the futures still to come.
