Rasheed – Transparency International Jordan Hosts National Dialogue to Introduce Good Governance Guidelines for Civil Society Organizations
The event brought together around 50 representatives from CSOs, legal experts, government entities, and relevant stakeholders to explore how the proposed guidelines can contribute to a more transparent, accountable, and participatory civil society environment. The guidelines have been developed to reflect the international best practices within Jordan’s legal context, aiming to provide practical tools that support CSOs in adopting effective internal governance systems.
Among the participating institutions were the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Social Development, Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, Companies Control Department, and the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission.
“This good governance guide doesn’t only provide the international best practices, but it also provides the needed tools for implementation, taking into consideration the different size of the CSOs as well as the Jordanian legal framework,” said Ms. Abeer Mdanat, Executive Director of Rasheed TI.
"At the heart of our partnership with Jordan lies the European Union’s shared commitment with the Jordanian government to promote inclusive governance and community participation. By creating space for dialogue and promoting transparency and mutual accountability between state institutions and civil society organizations, this project reflects this shared commitment," said Ms. Amal AbuJeries, Programme Manager for Civil Society, Gender and Youth at the European Union Delegation to Jordan.
"Believing in the importance of meeting evolving community needs through an integrated, participatory approach that strengthens the principles of good governance, the Registry of Associations, in collaboration with relevant ministries and institutions, continues its diligent efforts to develop legislative and regulatory frameworks and improve the quality of services provided to this sector in order to enhance its institutional capacities," said His Excellency Mr. Nasser Al-Shraideh, Secretary General of the Registry of Associations.
Eng. Emad Shnaikat, Head of Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing at the Registry of Associations, in the dialogue session. During the session, participants engaged in interactive dialogue and group discussions covering key themes such as financial governance, anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing, human resources, and conflict-of-interest & protection from exploitation policies.
This initiative is part of the “Empowered and Connected” project, which aims to strengthen the role of civil society in promoting transparency, democratic participation, and good governance.
The feedback collected from the session will be incorporated into the final version of the guide, ensuring it meets the practical needs and expectations of civil society actors in Jordan.
