Project Description

To consolidate civil society actors in Western Kazakhstan to promote and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms, serving as an indispensable catalyst for promoting democratic reforms in the country.

Main target groups

Civil society and human rights activists. Trade and labor union activists. Informal initiative groups. General population in selected regions of Western Kazakhstan. Law enforcement authorities. Government institutions. Media and journalists. Kazakhstani Human Rights NGOs. International organizations, donors, embassies and diplomatic missions.

Expected results

The project will contribute to the creation of an environment in which human rights are respected, protected and promoted. This will ultimately lead to democratic reforms leading to the creation of a society that supports human rights, embraces democratic values and promotes an inclusive and participatory system of governance.

At least 100 civil society leaders, human rights defenders and members of informal groups will be trained and improve their knowledge and skills in the field of eradicating all forms of torture, and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment;

It is expected that 400 people in 4 project regions will directly benefit from the legal assistance measures;

At least 100 victims of human rights violations will benefit from the EU-funded assistance;

At least 30 civil society organizations will be engaged in solving issues/problems of freedom of assembly and association;

At least 100,000 people will be reached by the campaigns of civil society organizations to counter shrinking civic space and their awareness of their labor rights will be raised.
